They are often sold as chuck steak family pack but some marketers cut it from the neck and shoulder. The chuck contains many connective tissues, like collagen, which partially melts during cooking. Meat from the chuck in most cases is used for stewing, braising, slow cooking and pot roasting.

Chuck steak can be cooked as beefstew, crock pot roast and boneless shoulder steak. The crock pot roast is prepared by first treaming excess fat from the beef; place the roast in the crock pot to be able to know how much of the other ingredients you will need. Cut and peel various vegetables that you will use and place them in the crock pot. Once you have got all the solid ingredients in the crock pot, add at least three quarters of soup or water then add salt and pepper. Let it cook until you can stick a fork through the roast, pour the soup into a source pan then thicken it. The boneless shoulder as a type of chuck steak is prepared by first poking holes on the meat for the marinade to easily penetrate the steak, put the meat in a zip lock buggie then pour some teriyaki source on top of it. You can fry it on a pan or grill it, whatever you choose to do with your steak, cook it with minimum heat so that it cooks properly. Eating undercooked meat is harmful to your health.
